Lights For JEEP WRANGLER TJ ( 1997 - 2006 )

BEST LIGHTS TO INSTALL ON YOUR 1997-2006 JEEP WRANGLER TJ

One of the last vehicles to retain its rugged, off-road capabilities before adopting the bulkier design of contemporary trucks. The JK weighs 1,000 pounds more on average than the departing TJ. We adore the TJ for this reason—a fantastic fusion of modern functionality and traditional design. The lighting options, though, could be better.

We made a list of the best lighting changes for your 1996-2006 Jeep Wrangler TJ. These changes will improve and modernize your Wrangler's lighting. This is for those who want to explore off-road paths and those who want to make their motorcycles safer.

ABOUT THE WRANGLER TJ

The wayfarer sunglasses and cargo shorts are a must-have for this retro-inspired Jeep and are suitable for all ages. The YJ model got a new boxier look, ditching its signature round headlamps and overall design style.

Jeep fans liked the TJ model because it had important upgrades. These upgrades included dual airbags, optional anti-lock brakes, and coil springs. The coil springs worked with the Grand Cherokee's suspension. Fans thought the TJ model was a return to form.

The new parts made the Jeep easier to drive every day and more comfortable. They also raised the Jeep higher off the ground and improved its ability to handle rough terrain in the Mojave Desert. The car retained the outboard hood latches and folding windshield that drivers are used to, and the soft-top was easier to operate.

This Jeep model was produced for ten years before receiving an update in 2003. The update included the installation of the Jeep Liberty's 2.4L "Power-Tech" engine. It also saw several limited-sale partnerships and special editions throughout its existence.

The 2003 Tomb Raider Edition is the one that sticks out the most. Only 1,000 of these cars were produced.

They were made with special wheels, badges, and silver paint. These features were designed to match the car in a movie from 2003. The movie starred Angelina Jolie.

LIGHTING

Luckily, Jeep returned to the classic headlight design for the vehicle and has not gone back to the rectangular style yet. Both performance and safety require an update to the antiquated halogen lamps.

HEADLIGHTS

For good reason, this is the most apparent modification a person may make to their vehicle. If you are driving around in a Wrangler TJ, you probably admire the vehicle's iconic and retro style. The Holley RetroBright 7" Round LED Headlights are arguably the most excellent option for replacing your headlights.

Like its namesake, the RetroBright combines traditional design elements with cutting-edge functionality. An LED cartridge replaces the dim light output, but the sealed beam appearance and feel are retained. Two well-known companies in the car parts industry, Holley and Morimoto, created a unique lamp. The lamp is designed specifically for owners of old cars and trucks.

It fits on practically any car thanks to its period-appropriate hue and shallow structure. Should you like to give it a more contemporary look, two colors are available: classic white (3000K) and modern white (5700K).

FOG LIGHTS

A good set of fog lights is necessary for any Wrangler or Jeep. How else can you navigate the dense fog of the Okefenokee Swamps or the wide-ranging snowfall in Denver, Colorado? Furthermore, a good pair of fog lights improve the car's appearance.

It is crucial to have a sturdy, long-lasting bulb for your fog lights because they will be put through a lot. An excellent starting point for upgrading to LED fog lighting is the GTR Lighting CSP Mini. It uses about a third less power and has double the brightness of typical OEM bulbs at just 16 watts.

The Morimoto 2Stroke 3.0 is an excellent choice for individuals who want to go LED. They use Philips Lumileds Z ES LED Chips to produce a brighter and more powerful output in a smaller package. The lifespan of these bulbs is extended by the cooling fan's ability to be concentrated in a smaller area due to their compact shape.

Because the CSP Mini does not require an enclosed fan and the 2Stroke 3.0 does, these two alternatives are excellent for Jeeps. This implies that your fog lights will survive the mud holes and other unclean environments your Jeep will drive through.

BRAKE LIGHTS

Going with bulbs is your best decision, even though you could spend a few hundred dollars on aftermarket housings or another set of OEM taillights. Over time, it will be difficult to find original equipment manufacturer housing. Aftermarket housing options are a mix of low-quality products and DIY projects. These DIY projects require a lot of work.

The i-LED Ultra is the brightest brake and turn signal bulb. It is a great brake light made by GTR Lighting for this purpose. If the Ultra series is too expensive, you can choose the Armor Series bulbs instead. They have the same features but are cheaper.

INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHT

Many of the Wrangler TJ's lighting fixtures won't last as long as the vehicle itself, despite the TJ's durability. This is particularly true for the fixtures that are nearly always in operation.

We are referring to the gauge cluster lights in this instance. Even if replacing them is a challenging undertaking, the effort is worthwhile. If you want to update the appearance of your dashboard, we suggest the Morimoto Hybrid.

With a solid OEM appearance, you will get a gentle color that is not overbearing when paired with the 5000K light and PC light filter. The light is dispersed evenly to light your dashboard adequately.

COURTESY LIGHT

Another powerful lighting application would be our final item on the list, but it would be impolite of us to leave out the underdog (nearly literally). The light that illuminates the ground as you get in and out of your automobile is your courtesy light. It's not something you notice every day, but you will miss it when it disappears.

In just nine simple steps, Adjust Jeep Wrangler headlights with ease.

These days, many drivers need to be aware of how to set their headlights usually, which might result in an excessively high headlight height that impairs other drivers' nighttime visibility. You often dislike drivers who use high beams irresponsibly at night. Be cautious and aware of them. The headlight of a Jeep Wrangler is too high for oncoming traffic, which is just as dangerous as using high beams.

People are known to be harmed by high beams, and safe lighting usage is one of a driver's most fundamental skills. This is also the most essential ability for drivers to use lights safely. It is far more aggravating for drivers to arbitrarily adjust their lights so that low-beam lights become "high-beam lights" than for them to utilize them.

Therefore, the Jeep Wrangler's headlight height adjustment is crucial. The standard setup for this type of car has four height adjustment gears. However, automobile owners frequently need clarification about which gear to use for headlamp height; this is explained in the handbook. However, the explanation is standard yet can be confusing to many:

  1. Make sure the Jeep Wrangler body is flat
  2. Putting the car in place
  3. Turn on the headlights.
  4. Make sure the two side lights are the same height
  5. Back up until you are a certain distance from the wall or garage door
  6. Adjust the lights on each side separately
  7. Turn the screw or bolt above to adjust the beam height
  8. Turn the screw or bolt next to the beam to adjust the left and right angle
  9. Test the adjusted lights on the road

1. Make sure the body is flat.

Take everything out of the back seat and deduct the extra weight. Verify that all tire pressure is at the recommended level specified by the manufacturer. Get someone to check that the petrol tank is halfway full while seated in the driver's seat. It is also necessary to have the headlight adjustment wheel, if any, in the zero position.

2. Set the car up.

With the front of the vehicle facing the wall, park the car on a level area between three and four meters away from a dark wall or garage door. Parking on a level driveway or in a parking area with a level surface is ideal.

Ensure the shock absorbers are not skewed by applying pressure to the car's corners multiple times.

To ensure the suspension is level, measure the distance between the two headlights and the ground.

3. Set the car up

Position the vehicle face-up against a dark wall or garage door at a distance of around 3 to 4.6 meters on a level parking area. The ideal places to park are on level driveways or parking lots.

To ensure the shock absorbers are not skewed, repeatedly press the car's corners.

To ensure the suspension is level, measure the separation between the ground and the two headlights.

4. make sure the two side lights are the same height

Check to determine if the heights of the two center lines are equal by placing a level between them. Measure the height of the shorter vertical line and how much it deviates from the other line using a tape measure if they are not the same height. When counting up from the ground, these intermediate lines should be at most 1.1 meters.

5. Back up the car until 7m-6m from the wall or garage door.

Switch off the headlamps. Find the adjuster screws after removing the headlight trim ring. Although some manufacturers install the adjustment screws in the engine unit behind the headlights, they are often attached to the headlights. Each of them will have a mark identifying it as the vertical adjuster (which adjusts height) and the horizontal adjuster (which adjusts left and right).

Observe the guidelines in the owner's manual; several manufacturers suggest a distance beyond the standard procedures.

To change the beam height, there ought to be a screw above the headlight. To change the beam's left and right angle, there is another screw adjacent to the headlight. Rather than using a screw, certain cars might use a bolt.

6. Adjust the lights on each side separately.

It will be hard to tell the difference between the headlights if you only adjust and test one side. Covering the other headlight with a hoodie or another object makes it even more challenging. When making changes, get someone to take the wheel and assist you in turning on and off the lights.

7. Turn the screw or bolt above to adjust the beam height.

The lights should be adjusted higher by turning clockwise and lower by rotating counterclockwise.

After the beam is adjusted, please turn on the lights and observe how it moves along the wall. The most substantial beam should be level with, or slightly below, the middle line you indicated.

8. Turn the screw or bolt next to it to adjust the left and right angle of the light beam.
